Botox – It's Not Just for Wrinkles

We had our third follow-up visit to the rehabilitation doctor last week. This was his primary doctor while my husband was in an in-patient rehab facility. This visit was used to discuss botox injection in his arm.

The stroke was May 31st and we are now at the end of November with no movement in his arm or hand.

The muscles are starting to develop too much tone; his fingers curl in and his arm does not stay straight. We can pull his arm down and his fingers out to straighten them and we also have a hand brace we are using several hours a day to help with this, but the doctor believes he could definitely benefit from Botox injections to loosen the muscles.

Two weeks after the injections, he will start occupational therapy again to see if they can make some improvements after the botox has loosened the muscles.

If your stroke survivor is also showing signs of muscle tightness, speak to their doctor to see if this is an option for them.

We are waiting for insurance approval and then we can schedule the appointment. Watch for a follow-up post on this topic where I’ll let you know how he does!
