One of the things we struggled with when my husband came home from rehab was a convenient way to reach or “get at” the things he used on a regular basis.
He was initially in a wheelchair, then graduated to a walker, then a cane and the use of a lift chair (a recliner that has motors and will help raise him to a standing position).
I decided to get a rolling table. It would make it easy to move to wherever he was sitting.
I purchased this table as I did not want to make a big investment for something that might not be used for a long period.
It worked fine but had a couple of issues that I wish I had thought about before purchasing.
So I want to share them with you in case these are things you need to consider.
The table did not raise and lower easily. I had to raise or lower it for him, so it was another thing he was dependent on me to do.
The bar across at the bottom across the legs was sometimes inconvenient. It didn’t always fit right based on the angle of his wheelchair. That bar seemed to “get in the way” quite a bit.
At Christmas time – he had been home for about 5 months – I decided to upgrade to a better table. And by better, I mean one that didn’t have a bar across the bottom and that was easy to lift and lower.
Using a product for a while is a really good way of realizing there may be something better that meets your needs! Of course if either one of these 2 things are not an issue for you, then this table would probably work really well.
After reviewing many tables online on many sites, I decided to go with this model from the Seville brand.
It has a wider base and has airlift technology so it was much easier to raise and lower and my stroke survivor was able to do this on his own with one hand.
Another bonus? It’s a bigger tabletop and can hold more items.
We are almost a year out from the stroke and he still uses this table ALL THE TIME. He keeps his phone and laptop on it and it’s still big enough to hold his glasses, his lunch, a drink, etc.
If you are looking for a table with wheels, one of these may work for you to.
